while you have it down go ahead and check the tower seals. the solonoid pack bolts to the valve body. just unbolt it and bolt in the new one, the new one may not come with the same color connector, will be white or grey, but no worries here. bolt it all back up, clear your codes and drive. the 4 is the limp mode.

He said it's not exactly a common problem that they see but they have done plenty of valve bodies on the 66RFE and 68RFE with good success. crasher76. 2344 posts · Joined 2009. #3 · Jun 15, 2010. when in limp mode operation the shift lever in the drive position will be in 3rd gear, and when moved to 2nd or l the transmission will be in 2nd gear. this will allow the driver to manually shift the transmission to limp home. well hope this helps least i gotcha out of 3rd and into 2nd.Easy to fix, just take the top of the trans off from inside the cab and check it out, easy to see if it's trying to go into two gears at the same time.
